A multi-campus endeavor by Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) and other colleges in the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) was undertaken this week to provide aid for residents of the south Georgia region.
The donations were part of a larger effort by the TCSG for people that were affected by the extensive storm and flooding damage that occurred in January.
Albany Technical College, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, and Southern Regional Technical College sent semi-trailer trucks to six designated TCSG colleges spread throughout the state. Other schools in the TCSG system were able to coordinate their donations with one of the six designated colleges that was closest to their location.
GNTC’s Floyd County Campus was one of the six designated pick up locations. Albany Technical College (ATC) sent two semi-trailer trucks that were part of their Commercial Truck Driving program, to the Rome campus.
The GNTC campuses in Catoosa, Gordon, Polk, Walker and Whitfield counties sent items to the Floyd County Campus throughout the week to be consolidated for the ATC pickup on Friday.
West Georgia Technical College sent a bus load of items to the Rome campus. A significant donation was also provided by Big Time Products, Calhoun City Schools, Hillshire Farms, and Kellogg’s.
“We would like to thank everyone for all the generous donations,” said Pete McDonald, president of GNTC.
Items that were collected included food, blankets, towels, clothing, cleaning supplies, non-perishable food items, sodas, juices, and cash donations.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College provides quality workforce education to the citizens of Northwest Georgia. Students have the opportunity to earn an associate degree, diploma, or a certificate in business, health, industrial, or public service career paths. This past year, 13,734 people benefited from GNTC’s credit and noncredit programs. With an annual credit enrollment of 7,876 students, GNTC is the largest college in Northwest Georgia. GNTC has an additional enrollment of 5,858 people through adult education, continuing education, business and industry training, and Georgia Quick Start.
