GNTC’s Singletary to appear on podcast

February 12, 2025

Dr. Kristy Singletary, dean of General Education at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC), will be featured on the Silver Lining for Learning podcast on Saturday, Feb. 15, at noon.

Christopher Dede, a senior research fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will host the program.

“I hope this podcast can help recruit new students; I want every person in the communities we serve who has thought about earning a certificate, diploma or degree to know we are here, we are innovative and we’re excited to welcome them,” Singletary said.

Singletary describes herself as a passionate advocate for widespread access to higher education, with research focused on identifying and addressing barriers to student success in higher education. Recently, she has become an active contributor to research on the ethical integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance learning outcomes in Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) classrooms.

“As an educator, administrator and researcher, I am deeply committed to providing exceptional education for students,” she said.

Singletary described the podcast as a valuable opportunity to showcase GNTC’s innovation.

“We have leadership, faculty and staff support for exploring and implementing tested AI tools. We have an opportunity to reach a large, diverse audience, which can help build partnerships and visibility for GNTC and the Technical College System of Georgia.”

Singletary said she will discuss her experiences with the National AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (AI-ALOE) and Georgia Institute of Technology AI technologies used in her courses during the interview. She will join Ashok K. Goel, professor of Computer Science and Human-Centered Computing in the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech and chief scientist with Georgia Tech’s Center for 21st Century Universities, and Sandeep Kakar, research scientist in the Design and Intelligence lab of the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech.

“AI-ALOE is a cross-disciplinary, collaborative effort to develop new AI theories and techniques for enhancing online education for lifelong learning and workforce development,” according to aialoe.org. AI-ALOE brings together researchers and experts in cognitive and learning science, computer science and education from a consortium of universities and partners with non-profits and corporations like Boeing, IBM and Wiley to advance and apply the research.

Singletary has more than two decades of experience in academia, including 12 years with TCSG. She was chair of the English and Humanities program at Southern Regional Technical College prior to joining GNTC in July 2024. She will complete her fellowship with AI-ALOE in May, she said.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College provides quality workforce education to the citizens of northwest Georgia.
