March 24, 2025

Tammy Chandler, a student in the Computer Support Specialist program, and Hayleigh Cochran, a student in the Business Management program, are the recipients of the scholarship. Both are students at GNTC’s Walker County Campus in Rock Spring.

“Roper Corporation is committed to supporting the development of skilled workers, and establishing the Roper Scholarship at GNTC aligns with our dedication to investing in education and workforce development,” said Luther Ingram, Roper’s president and executive director and a member of the GNTC Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “We believe this scholarship will provide valuable opportunities for students pursuing careers in fields that are essential to our industry.”

“We are so grateful for this generous support from Roper Corporation,” said Dr. Heidi Popham, GNTC president. “It is a testament to Roper’s commitment to elevating the workforce in northwest Georgia and an outstanding opportunity for Roper employees enrolled at Georgia Northwestern Technical College.”

The Roper Corporation Scholarship was established in 2024 and provides financial assistance to GNTC students employed by Roper Corporation. Roper is a wholly owned subsidiary of GE Appliances, a Haier company. The Roper plant in LaFayette manufactures freestanding ranges, wall ovens, electric and gas cooktops and is one of northwest Georgia’s largest employers with more than 2,500 employees.

Students can be enrolled in any credit program and must work at Roper during the application and award semesters to be eligible for the scholarship. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, supplies, tools or other educational materials.

“Georgia Northwestern Technical College plays an important role in supporting Roper’s workforce needs by providing specialized training programs and hands-on learning experiences that equip students with the skills required for success in the manufacturing industry,” said Ben Canedo, Roper’s Human Resources senior business partner and a member of GNTC’s Board of Directors. “This partnership ensures a steady pipeline of qualified professionals are ready to contribute to Roper’s growth and innovation.”
