Special receptions were held at all six Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) campuses recently to honor and congratulate 2024 Dual Enrollment students.
The receptions were held at the Catoosa County Campus, Ringgold; Floyd County Campus, Rome; Gordon County Campus, Calhoun; Polk County Campus, Rockmart; Walker County Campus, Rock Spring; and Whitfield Murray Campus, Dalton.
“Dual Enrollment challenges students to engage with higher-level academic thought and to complete more rigorous coursework, assuming the responsibility of a college student while maintaining their high school coursework, extracurriculars and other various activities,” said Legare Price, dean of Student Success at GNTC.
The Dual Enrollment program builds confidence among participants that they can complete a college program, he said. GNTC’s Dual Enrollment students have the potential to receive an associate degree, diploma or certificate from GNTC as they graduate from high school, giving them a leg-up if they continue their education at GNTC, transition to four-year college or enter the workforce.
“I have already completed a certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education Basics, and I’m completing a certificate in Child Development Specialist this semester,” said Nevaeh King, a Dual Enrollment student at Mountain Education High School.
Chelsea Ford, a Dual Enrollment student at Southeast Whitfield High School, said she is completing her Emergency Medical Technician certificate; Juilina Teasley, a Dual Enrollment student at Coahulla Creek High School, said she has completed the Nurse Aide Fundamentals course.
GNTC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit. Courses completed through GNTC will transfer to almost any institutionally-accredited school, giving students a significant head start to completing their academic and career goals, Price explained.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College provides quality workforce education to the citizens of northwest Georgia. Students have the opportunity to earn an associate degree, diploma or a certificate in aviation, business, health, industrial or public service career paths. This past year, 11,601 people benefited from GNTC’s credit and noncredit programs. GNTC has an annual credit enrollment of 8,071 students and an additional enrollment of 3,530 people through adult education, continuing education, business and industry training and Georgia Quick Start. GNTC is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia and an Equal Opportunity Institution.
