SGA finishes up calendar year with pizza and Fruit Ninja
The last Student Government Association (SGA) meeting of the calendar year went underway in the Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) auditorium to finalize details of a hot cocoa bar and begin planning the Spring fling which will take place in March.
SGA Vice President Tatiana Edwards brought the meeting to order by recognizing the new faces at the meeting and encouraged any who are interested to join the organization. During the meeting, Trish Wiggins, GNTC coordinator of Recruitment and Student Life and SGA advisor, laid out the colleges plan to offer students a hot chocolate bar the week following Thanksgiving break.
Students at Floyd (Dec. 2), Whitfield Murray (Dec. 3), Walker County (Dec. 3) and Gordon County (Dec. 4) will be treated to a spread of different hot chocolate options according to Wiggins. There will be a variety of mixes, chocolates and more offered at the bar from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the aforementioned campuses. SGA is also looking for student volunteers to operate the hot cocoa bar.
With winter business wrapped up, the SGA turned their attention to the college’s annual Spring Fling. While the dates for individual campuses have not yet been scheduled, the events at the fling are coming together. Wiggins said GNTC Police have volunteered to bring a variety of demonstrations to promote safety. There will also be a Spring Fling t-shirt and tie-dye station according to Wiggins, and students may submit designs for the shirt provided it meets certain guidelines.
After the meeting members and guests were treated to pizza provided by the SGA and played Fruit Ninja on the Xbox Kinect. The next meeting is expected to be in late January.
The Student Government Association manages all student life on every Georgia Northwestern Technical College campus and also handles the budget for student organizations at the college. Those who wish to represent their campuses in SGG can contact Trish Wiggins. The SGA President is Jaweah Hamilton and the Vice President is Tatiana Edwards.
